Court fixes judgment for September 18 in suit seeking Ganduje’s sack

A Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled judgment for September 18 in a suit seeking the removal of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.

Justice Inyang Ekwo chose the date on Friday after lawyers to parties in the case adopted their written arguments and made final submissions.

In his final submission on Thursday, plaintiff’s lawyer, Benjamin Favour urged the court to hold in his client’s favour and grant all the reliefs sought.

Lawyers to the defendants – Abdul Adamu (for Ganduj); Isiaka Dikko (SAN) for the APC and Ahmed Mohammed for INEC urged the court to dismiss the suit for being unmeritorious.

The defendants queried the plaintiff’s legal capacity to institute the suit.

Keyamo urges visa restrictions removal for Africa’s business growth

The Minister of Aviation & Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on the governments of African countries to take urgent steps in facilitating the removal of visa restrictions to enable the free movement of people and goods across the continent.

To achieve this , Keyamo said there is need to work with Foreign Affairs Ministers across Africa to push for accelerated economic development.

Speaking at the Wings of Change Focus Africa Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, the Minister made a case for adequate funding of air transport in Africa.

Also speaking at the event, IATA,s Regional Vice President, Africa & Middle East, Kamil Al-Awachi called for pursuit of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, which constitutes part of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN) recent programmes.

Speaking on the fall – out of the conference, FAAN ‘s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, said the authority, under the leadership of Mrs Olubunmi Kuku as Managing Director, has taken recent steps to make Nigeria’s airports safe and accessible by genuine tourists and travellers, alongside efforts to eliminate touting and other forms of criminal conducts around the airports.

Rivers judgement: Oko-Jumbo heads for Supreme Court

The Victor Oko-Jumbo-led lawmakers have confirmed the filing of an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the judgement of the Appeal Court delivered on Wednesday in Port Harcourt. 

Oko-Jumbo insisted that he remained the Speaker despite the Appeal Court judgement.

He said they “strongly believes that the Court of Appeal was in error when it held that the Rivers State High Court lacked the Jurisdiction to hear and determine Suit no. PHC/1512/CS/2024”.

NNPP denies writing to Senate alleging siege by FG on Kano

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has denied writing any letter to the Senate, accusing the Federal Government of laying siege on Kano State over the Emirate leadership tussle.

This is contained in a statement by the NNPP National Chairman, Dr Agbo Major on Friday in Lagos.

The party is reacting to a letter written to the Senate, through its President, Godswill Akpabio by Dr Ajuji Ahmed on June 24.

The letter was titled: “Need for NNPP Federal Lawmakers to Make Urgent and Concerted Efforts to Immediately End the Siege on Kano State by Agents of the Federal Government.”

According to Major, the letter written by Ahmed was without the mandate and authorisation of the leadership of the NNPP.
