According to Vanguard, Women from the FCT gathered at the Unity Fountain Arena in Maitama District to protest against the alleged attacks on Senator Ireti Kingibe by Minister Nyesom Wike. The protesters marched to the Presidential Villa, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and stop the harassment.
The protest comes amid escalating political tensions in the FCT, with Wike and Senator Kingibe at odds over representation and governance. Zainab Abubakar, the protest leader, expressed the women's support for Kingibe and condemned Wike's actions. "We won't stand by while our elected representative is constantly attacked and humiliated," Abubakar said.
The protesters fear for the safety of potential victims and urge all Abuja women to join them in opposing Wike's behavior. Ify Jacobs, Bwari Area Council women's coordinator, highlighted the negative impact of the rivalry on the city's development, calling on Wike to let Senator Kingibe perform her duties without interference.
She said, "We have observed with keen interest the unprovoked and constant attacks on our democratically elected representative, Senator Ireti Kingibe, by FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike."
"We strongly object to such onslaughts, humiliation, and intimidation. Have we forgotten the importance of women in society and the need to respect them?"
