Israeli Troops Surround Terrorist Hideout in Jenin, Exchanges Fire with Terrorists

According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli military declared that it was carrying out an operation in Jenin, a city in the West Bank that is under occupation.

A statement released on X stated that the Israeli military had encircled a structure where they said "terrorists are entrenched and exchange fire with the terrorists."

A squad of armed terrorists was the target of an aircraft during the firefight, according to the statement, however no other information was given.

There have been regular skirmishes between Israeli police and Palestinian militants during the tense months-long situation in Jenin.

Known for its resistance in the past, Jenin is today the centre of violence in the West Bank.

The operation by the Israeli military is the most recent in a string of moves meant to target what they refer to as local extremist sanctuaries.

Witnesses in Jenin reported hearing a lot of gunfire and explosions.

It was observed that there were helicopters and drones flying overhead, showing the scope and gravity of the military operation.

Numerous homes in the neighbourhood were allegedly damaged during the battle, and locals were advised to stay indoors.

Although the precise reason behind the current operation is still unknown, other sources indicate that Israel is using it as part of a larger plan to quell militant activity in Jenin and other West Bank areas.

Such actions, according to Israeli officials, are required to uphold security and avert terrorist strikes.

But these actions frequently lead to property devastation and deaths among civilians, escalating the already unstable situation.

Recognising the operation as an act of aggression and a breach of international law, Palestinian officials have denounced it.

"This is a clear example of the ongoing Israeli occupation and the use of excessive force against the Palestinian people," said a spokesperson for the Palestinian Authority.

"These actions only serve to escalate tensions and hinder any prospects for peace."

The operation has a huge humanitarian impact.

Hospitals in Jenin are preparing for an influx of victims, and medical professionals are on high alert.

Concerned about the possibility of injury to civilians, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has urged all sides to use caution and make sure that civilians are protected.
