Euro 2024: He's dynamic – Defoe wants Southgate to give England star more playing time

Former England international Jermain Defoe has urged England manager Gareth Southgate to give Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins more playing time at Euro 2024, according to Daily Post. Defoe believes Watkins' dynamic style of play could be a game-changer for England as they face Slovakia in the Round of 16 on Sunday.

Watkins' ability to run in behind defenders and his versatility on the pitch have impressed Defoe, who thinks he could be the key to unlocking England's attacking potential. "He [Watkins] is someone who can get us up the pitch because he is so dynamic," Defoe told PA news agency. "He runs in behind, the ball doesn't only come to his feet. I would love to see him involved a little bit more because Harry Kane can drop into that 10 position, to roam and do his stuff."

Defoe's comments suggest that he believes Watkins has the potential to bring a new dimension to England's attack, and that his pace and movement could complement Kane's skills perfectly. With England looking to make a deep run in the tournament, Defoe's call for Watkins to be given more playing time may be a wise one.
