In a recent interview with Arise Television, Kenneth Okonkwo, a renowned actor and lawyer, passionately advocated for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Okonkwo argued that releasing Kanu would be a strategic move towards peace and reconciliation in Nigeria's southeast region.

Okonkwo highlighted the numerous advantages of releasing Kanu, suggesting that the federal government has several options to facilitate this process. He emphasized that such a move could significantly contribute to stabilizing the region, which has been fraught with tension and unrest. The actor and lawyer pointed out the evolving perception of Kanu due to his continued imprisonment. He argued that keeping Kanu in prison only serves to elevate his status while undermining the government's credibility.

To bolster his argument, Okonkwo drew comparisons with the treatment of other individuals in similar situations. He urged the federal government to adopt a more intelligent approach by releasing Kanu, rehabilitating him, and fostering reconciliation. This, he suggested, would be in line with efforts to fully integrate the southeast into the nation. He believes that a more conciliatory approach would not only benefit Kanu but also promote national unity and peace.

Hear him: "The federal government have a lot of places it can stand to release Nnamdi Kalu and bring peace to the southeast. He is now more likely a political prisoner. I tell you something, the longer Nnamdi Kalu is in prison the taller he becomes and the shorter the government becomes. They should take the intelligent way and release him like they did to other people. They should rehabilitate him and reconcile him as they are reconciling Southeast completely to the Nation."
