Tinubu Urges Governors to Prioritize Grassroots Governance
According to reports from DAILY POST, President Bola Tinubu has raised concerns over the inadequate delivery of democracy dividends at the grassroots level, emphasizing the critical role of state governors in addressing the needs of local communities.
Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu underscored the importance of focusing on grassroots development to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngalale, President Tinubu lamented the neglect of grassroots areas despite their pivotal role in elections.
He urged the ACF leadership to engage governors in prioritizing the needs of people at the local level, stressing the importance of effective governance in enhancing service delivery.
Tinubu emphasized the necessity of accountability in local governance, questioning the effectiveness of the country's 774 local government areas in addressing the needs of Nigerians.
He called for a reevaluation of local government performance and advocated for greater coordination between local, state, and federal authorities to ensure efficient development programming.
Furthermore, President Tinubu highlighted the pressing issue of out-of-school children in various parts of Nigeria, describing the situation as unacceptable.
He emphasized the importance of education in nation-building and urged concerted efforts to address the root causes of educational challenges.
Addressing security concerns, Tinubu commended the efforts of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, in safeguarding the nation.
He pledged to prioritize investment in technology to enhance security measures and protect Nigerian citizens.
In his appeal for national unity, President Tinubu called for continued support for his government's initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges facing the country.
He directed the establishment of a committee to follow up on the issues discussed during the meeting, appointing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to lead the follow-up efforts.
