A popular Islamic scholar, Dr. Sani Rijiyan Lemu, from Northern Nigeria, expresses concerns and warns of potential risks and consequences following Nigeria's signing of the Samoa partnership agreement.

In a video of his Friday sermon seen by SaharaReporters on Sunday, the cleric accused the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu of plotting to allow the practice of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) in the country.

Sani said the country would be into a mess if LGBTQ is allowed and berated the government for reportedly moving towards that direction despite creating economic hardship for the masses.

Julius Bokoru, the Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has raised the alarm over multiple local and foreign trips made by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri.

Bokoru, who spoke in Yenagoa at the weekend, described Diri as a junketing governor, who had abandoned governance.

Referring to Diri as a globetrotter, Bokoru said the governor was constantly looking for any opportunity to jet out of Bayelsa, noting that his knack for traveling had drilled a big hole in the state’s pocket.

Pope Francis decried the state of democracy and warned against “populists” during a short visit to Trieste in Italy’s northeast on Sunday ahead of a 12-day trip to Asia — the longest of his papacy.

“Democracy is not in good health in the world today,” Francis said during a speech at the city’s convention centre to close a national Catholic event.

Without naming any countries, the pope warned against “ideological temptations and populists” on the day that France holds the second round of a snap parliamentary vote that looks set to see the far right National Rally (RN) party take the largest share of the vote.
