A member of the G-60 opposition group in Rivers State, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has raised concerns about the worsening constitutional issue in the state. Ugochinyere claims that the state's democracy has crumbled due to the crisis and that immediate action is required to restore it.

"What I'm saying is that we cannot continue to keep quiet," Ugochinyere emphasized. "Constitutional crisis has led to the collapse of our democracy. So all these crisis and all these pressure they're putting on the Judiciary, to interpret what is clear to all of you, section 109, 1g is automatic, it goes into effect at the very moment you move when there was no division. You can go to court and prove that there was a division. They're not doing that, there's no judgement or ruling in that aspect.

The automatic provision of Section 109, 1g of the Constitution, which states that a lawmaker's seat becomes vacant once they defect to another party without a division in their original party, is at the heart of the crisis. Ugochinyere argues that the judiciary is not upholding this clear provision, instead allowing external pressure to influence its rulings.
