Atiku Alleges Police Disobey Court Orders

The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the Nigeria Police for their alleged breach of citizens’ rights and disregard for court orders.

In a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, on Saturday, Atiku criticised the Police for their alleged disregard for the rule of law, citizens’ rights, and impunity.

The statement reads in part, “Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 election, has slammed the Police for their blatant breach of citizens’ rights and disregard for court orders.

“Atiku’s outrage follows the arrest and transportation of Yusuf Sheriff Banki from Abuja to Maiduguri, Borno State, in defiance of a standing court order.

“Justice M. A. Madugu of the Bwari Judicial Division, had on 13th June, 2024, granted an order restraining the IGP, AIG Zone 15, CP FCT, their agents, privies or anybody acting on their authority from arresting, intimidating, harassing and threatening Yusuf Sheriff Banki and his families pending the determination of the suit before the court.

Jonathan, Govs, Others To Grace N’Delta Summit

Former President Goodluck Jonathan and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, are to lead discussions on the forthcoming 2024 Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit to hold from July 10 to 13 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

The summit which has as its theme as ‘Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta Region’ will be facilitated by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

Also expected at the summit are governors of the nine states of the region and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.

The NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, who disclosed this during a pre-event news briefing in Port Harcourt, said the event would appraise the development challenges facing the region to find solutions to them and also fast-track the transformation of the oil and gas-rich region.

Ogbuku said, “The NDDC is only facilitating stakeholders’ summit in the Niger Delta because one of the key instruments of the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President is stakeholders’ engagement.


Samoa Agreement Requires FEC, NEC Approval – Minister

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has clarified that the controversial Samoa agreement has not been finalised, and requires approval from both the Federal Executive Council and the National Executive Council and the National Assembly for it to become fully operational.

The agreement is named after the Pacific Island of Samoa, where it was signed on November 15, 2023.

Bagudu also debunked the LGBTQ agreement, stating that the partnership seeks to resolve peculiar issues of each region based on universally accepted international laws, conventions and treaties applicable to the parties.

He noted that a €1.7bn grant gotten from the partnership aided the implementation of over 5000 water, sanitation, energy, education, health and other micro project interventions in 4,800 communities nationwide.


Fubara Promises To Fix Healthcare, Education, Agric in 2025

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, said nothing will ever distract the attention of his administration to take its eyes off the ball in ensuring that Rivers people get the best that will improve the quality of life that they lead.

Fubara gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen shortly after being conducted round the entire premises and structures of the Zonal Hospital in Degema Local Government Area on Saturday.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, and made available to newsmen.

The governor noted the concern over the absence of a befitting healthcare facility in the area but stated that the steps were being taken to address the situation.

Fubara emphasised that his administration had prioritised healthcare, education and agriculture so that Rivers people could access quality services from those key sectors.

He said his administration was committed to ensuring that Rivers people not only got critical road infrastructure delivered to them, adding that they would also be given other social amenities and services that would ensure wholesome protection for them and also give them quality healthcare services.

He said, “As I said, my target for 2025 is going to be healthcare, education and agriculture. This is just the beginning. We are here to assure our people that no matter what it is, we still have our eyes on the ball.
