Court Adjourns Yahaya Bello’s Arraignment Till July 17

The arraignment of Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State, has been adjourned until July 17, 2024. He faces charges including money laundering and misappropriation of public funds amounting to about N80.2 billion, brought by the EFCC. His lawyer applied to withdraw from the case, citing a pending request to transfer the trial to the Federal High Court in Lokoja. The court session saw arguments regarding the lawyers' professional conduct and ended with an adjournment for ruling and arraignment in July.

Courts Jail 10 For Internet Fraud In Kwara

Ten individuals in Kwara State have been sentenced for internet fraud, prosecuted by the EFCC at both federal and state high courts. They were convicted of defrauding people via cash apps and gift cards, totaling over N5 million and $2,750. The sentences ranged from 4 to 12 months in prison, with fines up to N300,000, and forfeiture of seized devices and money to the government.

Some Private Jets Used For Money Laundering, Drug Trafficking – Minister

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, revealed that some private jets in Nigeria are used for money laundering and drug trafficking. He inaugurated a Ministerial Taskforce Committee to combat illegal chartered operations. This committee, led by Ado Sanusi, CEO of Aero Contractors, will report findings within three months. Keyamo highlighted that the illegal activities have caused significant financial losses and security concerns.
