According to Vanguard, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated cartons of aphrodisiac products and sex enhancement drugs valued at N12 million in Sokoto.

NAFDAC Coordinator in the state, Mr. Garba Adamu, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the seizures occurred during routine patrol operations across markets in Sokoto and surrounding areas.

Adamu explained that the products were unregistered, highly unsafe due to dangerous ingredients, and visually offensive because of the pornographic images on the packaging.

He urged the public to avoid buying such products from unlicensed sources and to only purchase registered and safe products from licensed outlets.

“We also call on the general public to always report hawkers and dealers of such products to NAFDAC, as well as report any adverse reactions they may get from taking such products or any other regulated products,” Adamu said.

He highlighted the issue of marketers dumping expired or nearly expired products in markets in Sokoto and rural areas, warning traders against selling adulterated, counterfeit, unregistered, and expired goods to the public. Adamu reaffirmed NAFDAC's commitment to continuous enforcement.

The operation also targeted agrochemical and cosmetic stores, aiming to ensure that quality and legitimate products are available in the market. Adamu urged Nigerians to always check NAFDAC registration levels and the manufacturing and expiration dates of items before use.

Adamu praised the support from sister agencies, law enforcement, traders' associations, individuals, and groups in helping NAFDAC safeguard public health.
