A wedding in Machakos County turned dramatic when Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka Musau, popularly known as Kawaya, had his gift rejected due to his support for the controversial Finance Bill 2024. The incident occurred in the Mbiuni ward, where Kawaya had sent the area MCA, Peter Kilonzo (aka PK), with a contribution of KSh 10,000.
When Kilonzo announced that the MP had given KSh 10,000 and he added another KSh 10,000, the wedding emcees and guests refused to accept the contribution. The attendees were vocal in their disapproval of the MP's support for the Finance Bill, which has faced widespread criticism for potentially increasing the cost of living.
In a show of solidarity and protest, the wedding guests and emcees decided to raise money themselves, ultimately collecting KSh 12,000, surpassing the MP's contribution. One of the emcees declared, "We cannot take the money which is like a cross because of the punitive financial bill. Take back the money to him and tell him we will fight for ourselves."
The rejection of Kawaya's gift reflects the growing backlash against politicians who supported the Finance Bill 2024. Many have faced public outrage, and some have even suffered property losses during anti-government protests. This wedding incident highlights the deep-seated discontent among citizens regarding the bill's impact.
