According to 90min, Cody Gakpo has delivered a message to fans of the Netherlands and England, stressing that playing attractive football does not guarantee success in tournaments like Euro 2024.

Both the Oranje and the Three Lions secured narrow victories in their respective quarter-finals, setting up a highly anticipated semi-final clash in Dortmund on Wednesday. The Netherlands came from behind to defeat Turkey 2-1, while England edged past Switzerland on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Despite criticisms over their performances, which have been perceived as below par considering their talent, Gakpo, speaking after the Dutch triumph over Turkey in Berlin, pointed out that winning is ultimately what matters most.

"England won so that’s a good sign - like us! In the end, it's the most important thing," remarked Gakpo, the Liverpool forward.

"You can play good football but still go out. Obviously I think everyone knows each country can play a little bit better but if you win, that's all that matters."

England's captain, Harry Kane, echoed similar sentiments, noting improvements in the Three Lions' performances as the tournament progresses. This sentiment was shared by Nathan Ake of Manchester City regarding the Netherlands.

"I'm looking forward to it. There’s a lot of players I know from the Premier League. We know their individual qualities and it's a semi-final so it will be tough. We’re building momentum," stated Ake.

"We came through tough stages at the start of the tournament and now we've got through another test so I think we're ready for it.

"Underdog or not - it doesn't matter. We focus on ourselves. We know what we need to do. We are very close now."

As the excitement builds towards the semi-final clash, both teams are poised to give their all, prioritizing victory over style as they aim to secure a spot in the Euro 2024 final.
