Borno: Suicide Bombers Were Imported — Reps Allege

opera.com 2 days ago

According to Channels Television, The House of Representatives on Tuesday alleged that the female suicide bombers who killed scores in Borno State on Saturday were imported from outside the state. This claim came in a resolution after considering a motion of urgent national importance by Ahmed Jaha. He asserted that the bombers were “recruited, brainwashed, and imported” to execute the attack in Gwoza, which resulted in over 30 deaths and left more than 180 people critically injured.

The House condemned the attack and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent future occurrences. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) described the bombings as indicating that Nigeria is receding into a state of war. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, explained that the terror attacks were a response to recent military successes against the terrorists, which had weakened their resources and influence.

The attacks involved multiple Person-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (PBIED), commonly known as suicide bombings. The first explosion occurred around 3:00 PM when a female suicide bomber disguised as a beggar detonated an explosive at a wedding reception on Mararaba Hausari Street. The second explosion followed two hours later on the same street, targeting efforts to stabilize and move the initial casualties. While enforcing a curfew, a third explosion targeted troops, resulting in the deaths of a soldier and two members of hybrid forces. A fourth incident was averted when another bomber detonated her device prematurely, causing only her own death.

In total, 20 people were killed, and 52 others sustained injuries. The DHQ emphasized that every life lost, whether civilian or military, is a significant tragedy. They expressed condolences to the families of the victims and pledged continued efforts to combat terrorism. The DHQ called on citizens to remain united and vigilant, supporting the armed forces in ensuring a secure and peaceful future. They warned that the terrorists, in their desperate phase, aim to create panic and attract attention but assured that their actions would be met with decisive military response.
