Yahaya Bello Used Kogi’s $720,000 For Child’s Tuition – EFCC Chair

THE Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, claimed on Tuesday that investigation by the anti-graft agency revealed that the embattled former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, withdrew $720,000 from the state’s coffers to pay his child’s school fees.

The EFCC Chairman said he had personally put a call through to Bello, inviting him to clear the air on the issues but he refused to honour invitations.

Olukoyede spoke with editors, Bureau Chiefs, and media executives at the EFCC Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, on Tuesday, amid the raging controversy and counter-claims between the EFCC and the ex-governor.

AN Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has granted an order of mandatory injunction setting aside the selection and appointment of the Onifiditi of Fiditi, Oba Oyeleye Sakirudeen.

The suit, marked IHOY/59/2013, was between the applicants, namely Samuel Ogunkunle and Bayo Oyewale and Oba Oyelere Sakirudeen, Ademola Akande, Depo Oguntoyin, Kunle Oniyitan, who are first, second, third and fourth defendants respectively.

Others listed as defendants in the suit were the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde (fifth), Commissioner for Justice (sixth), Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters (seventh) and Chief Adebola (eighth).

According to the certified true copy of the judgment obtained by The PUNCH on Tuesday, Justice K.B. Olawoyin also granted “an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants jointly and/or severally by themselves, their servants, agents and/privies from taking any further actions, steps or proceedings towards or in pursuance of filling of the vacant stool of the Onifiditi of Fiditi, pending the determination of this suit.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will, next week, arraign a former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, in connection with the botched Nigeria Air project.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, urged Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja to deny the bail application of the detained Binance Holdings Limited executive, Tigran Gambaryan.

The anti-graft agency said it was too risky to admit the foreigner to bail, noting the escape of his co-defendant, Nadeem Anjarwalla, from the custody of the National Security Adviser and his escape to Kenya.
