Labour Party Nominates Dr. Ayodele Festus Olorunfemi as Ondo State Governorship Candidate

According to Vanguard, In a decisive move, Dr. Ayodele Festus Olorunfemi, a prominent unionist, has been chosen as the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Ondo State.

Olorunfemi's candidacy was confirmed unanimously during the governorship primary election held at the party's Secretariat in Akure, the capital of Ondo state, over the weekend.


A former General Secretary of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Olorunfemi emerged unopposed after obtaining the party's nomination form and fulfilling all necessary conditions.


The Chairman of the Labour Party Primary Committee, Hon. Olusola Ayodele, hailing from Oyo state, highlighted that out of the three aspirants, only Olorunfemi successfully completed the nomination process by paying the required fee of N25 million.


Ayodele emphasized the simplicity of the selection process, as the screening committee reviewed the documents presented by the aspirants, ultimately declaring Olorunfemi as the sole candidate.


Addressing supporters in his acceptance speech, Dr. Olorunfemi outlined his commitment to welfarist programs, promising to prioritize the welfare of the people if elected governor of Ondo state.


He stated, "The Labour Party, being a socialist-oriented political party, will focus on governance that revolves around the people. We are people-centric. Therefore, we will work diligently on a four-point agenda covering health, education, employment creation, and massive infrastructural development."


Olorunfemi stressed the importance of utilizing local resources, particularly through direct labor systems, to ensure the prudent utilization of funds and the equitable distribution of resources, especially among the most vulnerable segments of society, while also catering to the needs of the middle class.
