Leah Sharibu's ongoing incarceration has been discussed by Rafiu Kuteyi, the author of a book detailing her plight. In 2018, the terrorist group Boko Haram abducted several Dapchi schoolgirls, including Leah. The gang still has Leah in their custody, even after they rescued the other girls.
In a video that TVC released, Kuteyi stated that he had heard rumours that Leah was coerced into marrying one of the Boko Haram leaders and abandoning her beliefs. He added that rumours circulated that Leah had two children by her second husband, whom she was forced to marry after her first husband was killed in an air raid.
