Jonathan to declare 2024 NBA Law Week open in Bayelsa

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to grace the plenary session and declare open the 2024 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, next Friday.

Addressing a press conference to mark the commencement of the 2024 Law Week, the Chairman of NBA Yenagoa Branch, Mr. Somina Johnbull, said yesterday that the choice of the former President in view of the broad theme of the Law Week is on the account of the foundation for the growth of the legal profession laid by him during his stint as Governor of Bayelsa State.

Johnbull, who was flanked by other executives of the branch during the conference, said the theme for the 2024 Law Week, ‘The Legal Profession in a Time of Socio-Economic Uncertainty’ was carefully selected in the light of the harsh economic realities bedeviling the country.

He noted that the Law Week promises to be an illuminating time for legal practitioners and the legal profession.

El-Rufai visits Buhari in Daura

A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, and the Dujima of Adamawa, Alhaji Musa Halilu, on Sunday, visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.

A former presidential aide, Buhari Sallau, shared photos from the visit on his X account with the caption, “The former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru Elrufai & Dujima of Adamawa, Alhaji Musa Halilu paid a Sallah homage to His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Daura, Katsina State on 23rd June 2024.”

Emirate tussle: Kano to renovate mini place with N99.9m

The Kano State Government said it had earmarked N99.9m for the renovation of the Nasarawa mini palace, where the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is currently staying.

The dtate Commissioner for Information, Halilu Dantiye, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on Saturday.

The commissioner said the money was for the renovation of the defective wall or fence and surroundings at the Nassaawa Emir’s palace.

Recall that the state government had on Thursday night through the Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, directed the Commissioner of Police to evict Bayero from the palace ahead of demolition and renovation of the place.

But Dariye said the government earmarked N8.6 billion for various projects around health, education, water supply, and agriculture among others.

He said, “Revocation and re-award of contract for the construction of Post Midwifery Institute at Gezawa Local Government Area at the cost of N770.8 million, reconstruction and renovation of defective wall/fence and surroundings at Nassarawa Emir’s Palace at the cost of N99.9 million.

500 vulnerable pupils get educational materials in Niger

Five hundred vulnerable pupils from three schools in Niger State have benefited from the educational outreach of a support group of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the aegis of the BOS/BAT Movement.

Each of the pupils, who were selected from IBB Central Primary School, Minna; Wushishi Central Primary School and Dusten Kura Gwari Primary School, received a bag, socks, sandals and writing materials.

The Coordinator of BOS/BAT Movement, Hon. Medemakun Samuel, said the intervention was aimed at complimenting the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in education.

He said the President is working to ensure that no child is left behind in the area of education, adding that the impact of the President’s policy would soon be felt.

“There are a lot of people complaining that things are difficult, but our President has a plan for the nation, and soon we will start feeling the breeze of the renewed hope,” he said.
