Chelsea has announced a setback in their midfield as Enzo Fernandez faces the remainder of the season on the sidelines due to a groin injury, according to Metro.

The club confirmed that Fernandez underwent a successful surgery for an inguinal hernia and will commence his rehabilitation at Cobham.

Fernandez's determination was evident as he played through discomfort in Chelsea's recent matches despite the injury.

However, after the team's FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City and a crushing defeat by Arsenal, Fernandez opted for surgery to address the issue.

The Blues released a statement Thursday night, stating, "Enzo Fernandez has today undergone successful surgery on a groin issue and will now begin a period of rehabilitation, sidelining him for the remainder of Chelsea’s 2023/24 season."

The 23-year-old midfielder will be working closely with the club's medical team during his recovery.

While the exact duration of Fernandez's absence remains uncertain, there is hope that he might recuperate in time to represent Argentina in the upcoming Copa America, scheduled to begin on June 20 in the USA.
