Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Tuesday, lauded his Rivers State counterpart, Siminalayi Fubara, for the success of the construction of the 10.98km Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Otti, during the inauguration of the road, congratulated Fubara for what he had done in remembering to execute a road project in the Eleme community where he had once lived.
The road, also known as Old Bori Road, was awarded on August 14, 2023, to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation at the cost of N6.7 billion.

Following Organised Labour’s insistence on downing tools and declaring a nationwide strike if discussions on the new National Minimum Wage are not concluded by May 31, 2024, the Federal Government has summoned a meeting of the 37-member Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage, NNMW, for today in a major effort to beat the deadline.
Recall that Organised Labour, under the platform of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and its Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, counterpart had on May 1, 2024, in a joint address during the May Day celebration at the Eagle Square, Abuja, warned that “if, however, the negotiation on the national minimum wage is not concluded by the end of May, the trade union movement in Nigeria will no longer guarantee industrial peace in the country.”

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, has said the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has no right under the law to withhold the state’s local government funds.
Last week, the state chapter of the Association of Local Government Areas of Nigeria accused Fubara of withholding funds meant for the 23 LGs in the state.
The state ALGON stated that the governor’s action had denied members of their functions in the administration of the third tier of government.
The LG chairmen added that Fubara’s action was tantamount to proscribing local government councils in the state.
Benue Farmer Loses N100m To Attack

A farmer in Benue State has lost N100m worth of 350 hectares of cultivated field to farm produce thieves and attacks by hoodlums.
Our correspondent reports that produce theft has become a worrisome development in parts of the state with some losing nearly their entire seasonal efforts to those perpetrating the act.
Also, hoodlums from host communities attacking farmers who are using leased lands had been reoccurring.
A victim, Vitalis Tarnongu, a big farmer in the state, narrated his last season’s experience to our correspondent in Makurdi, saying he lost his large rice and maize fields due for harvest to frequent attacks.
