Plot to Remove Damagum as PDP Chairman Fails

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Damagum, has survived attempts to remove him from office. Despite discord within the party, the PDP's National Working Committee expressed full support for Damagum. The PDP National Caucus endorsed Damagum's continued acting role, deferring further deliberation to the upcoming NEC meeting. The Caucus also discussed upcoming congresses, reconstitution of committees, fundraising initiatives, and the Rivers State Caretaker Committee List.

Kidnap Victims Rescued In Kebbi

A joint security team in Kebbi rescued two individuals abducted by suspected bandits in Suru and Maiyama local government areas. The operation involved personnel from the Nigerian Army, NSCDC, DSS, and local vigilante groups. The success of the rescue mission was attributed to Governor Nasir Idris's support, providing necessary resources. The team tracked the bandits from Giro forest to Boma and ultimately to Zugu Liba forest, where the victims were rescued.

Clark urges PDP to probe Wike’s anti-party activities

Former federal commissioner for information and South South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has called for a probe into the alleged anti-party activities of former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and others. Clark also called for the dissolution of the present National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP and advised the party to revisit the online registration of its members. He warned that if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is made the candidate for the 2027 elections, the PDP could collapse as the second principal party in the country.

Ex-Anambra Gov, Obiano loses bid to stop trial in N40bn fraud charges

Former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has lost his bid to quash N40 billion money laundering charges brought against him by the Federal Government. Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed Obiano's application, stating that the reliefs sought were premature and lacking in merit. The judge scheduled June 24-27 for the full trial of the charges and permitted Obiano to travel abroad for medical treatment for 60 days, with the condition of returning to Nigeria and depositing his passport upon return.
