The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by supporters of Governor Siminialayi Fubara, resumed its legislative activities on Friday.

According to a report by Vanguard, this session was led by Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, who stated that the Assembly has appealed the recent Court of Appeal decision that nullified a State High Court ruling.

The High Court ruling had allowed them to serve as Speaker and members of the state legislature.

The Court of Appeal, in the case CA/PH/198/2024 filed by Amaewhule and others, declared on Thursday that the High Court order preventing them from acting as speaker and lawmakers was invalid.

Despite this, Oko-Jumbo announced on Friday that they have taken the matter to the Supreme Court.

They are challenging the Appeal Court’s judgement, which found that Justice Charles Wali of the State High Court did not have the authority to handle the case involving the state legislature.

During Friday's session, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Adolphus Orubienimigha, and the Leader of the House, Hon. Sokari Goodboy, introduced two bills.

The Rivers State Emergency Management Agency Bill, 2024, was presented by Goodboy, while Orubienimigha sponsored the Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill, 2024.
