The Law Is Very Clear That Animals Are Not Given Freedom To Roam About - Kenneth Okonkwo

During an interview on Arise TV, Kenneth Okonkwo, a renowned attorney, addressed the widespread misunderstandings of the Nigerian constitution with reference to the rights of both humans and animals.

Okonkwo highlighted the clauses in the constitution that provide Nigerian residents' freedom of movement and the right to live anywhere in the nation.

He explained, "First of all, that is a misinterpretation of the constitution. The constitution says any Nigerian citizen has the right to reside in any part of Nigeria and has the freedom of movement."

He went on to say that these rights, which provide people the freedom to travel and dwell wherever in the country, are essential and unquestionable.

Additionally, Okonkwo explained the legal position on animals, emphasizing the markedly different treatment that they get under the law.

In his words, "As a matter of fact, the law is very clear that animals are not given the freedom to roam about because animals are known to either destroy lives or destroy livelihoods."

"So when you talk about herbivorous animals, you're talking about animals that destroy livelihoods."
