Issa Ibrahim, a herdsman, and four others were sentenced to death for kidnapping and murdering his father, despite receiving a ₦3 million ransom.

The Osun State High Court in Ede convicted five individuals: Issa Ibrahim, Lateef Bello, Abdulrahmon Soliu, Bello Ibrahim, and Jolaanabi Saheed.

Ajibola Saheed, Jolaanabi's mother, was initially charged alongside the others but was ultimately cleared of all offenses.

The accused were charged with conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder. Despite their not guilty plea, the prosecution called three witnesses, including two of the victim's sons and a police officer, to testify against them.

A stool and a club discovered at Jolaanabi's home, where Adamu Ibrahim was held after his April 17, 2017, abduction, served as crucial evidence.

The ransom demand was initially 10 million naira, but the kidnappers eventually reduced it to 3 million naira, which was paid in Sagamu, Ogun State, as stated by Moses Faremi.

When Adamu Ibrahim's blindfold accidentally fell off, he recognized his kidnappers, who then killed and dismembered him, dumping his body parts into the Osun River.

Issa Ibrahim, the victim's son, allegedly orchestrated the kidnapping, seeking revenge for being denied his perceived birthright. He directed the gang to abduct his father and demand a ransom.

The judge, Kudirat Akano, ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence, including confessions and eyewitness accounts, to prove the defendants' involvement in conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder, rejecting the defense's claims of innocence and request for dismissal.

The judge, Justice Akano, sentenced the convicts to 14 years in prison for conspiracy and kidnapping and imposed a death sentence for murder, with the sentences to be served simultaneously.
