According to Independent Nigeria, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has firmly rejected the idea of a separate Yoruba nation. As a council member stated, "We are firmly opposed to the idea of carving out a Yoruba nation from Nigeria."

Instead, the YCE advocates for a restructured Nigeria that embraces true federalism. "We would rather have a restructured Nigeria that will allow states to function independently as part of a whole," said a council elder. They draw inspiration from the American model, where states have significant autonomy within the national framework.

While acknowledging the grievances of the Yoruba people, the YCE remains committed to Nigeria's unity. "The majority of the Yoruba race feel cheated by the present lopsided arrangement, but they are solidly against going away from the Nigerian arrangement," emphasized the council. They believe that the strength of Nigeria's unity lies in its diverse socio-cultural inheritances, which can be leveraged through education and efficient management.
