In a recent statement via his official X account, former Senator Shehu Sani has expressed his support for the creation of a single currency for West African countries.

Sani believes that a common currency will end fluctuations in local currencies.

He also thinks it will promote economic stability in the region.

"A common West African currency, Eco will finally bring an end to our local currencies in the subregion. For over four decades we have successfully maintained a common examination body, the WAEC, we can achieve that with a common currency," Shehu Sani wrote.

The idea of a common currency for West Africa has been discussed for many years.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has been working on this project.

The aim is to create a single currency called the Eco.

Supporters of the Eco believe it will make trade easier and will also reduce the cost of currency exchanges.

Additionally, it could strengthen economic ties between member countries.

The path to a common currency will require careful planning and cooperation.

Many believe that ECOWAS will need to address the economic differences between member countries.

It will also need to ensure that the Eco benefits all member states.

Shehu Sani believe it is a necessary step for West Africa's future.
