Insecurity: FCTA Impounds Over 20 Vehicles

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Abuja has impounded over 20 vehicles due to security concerns in the city. However, owners must follow specific procedures, including proper registration and acquiring unique identification and vehicle plate numbers. The Head of Operations at FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS), Deborah Osho, emphasized the need for compliance to prevent illegal taxi operations. She highlighted an e-hailing scheme that requires registration with NIMC and DRTS to ensure driver accountability and safety.

NLC, TUC release breakdown of proposed N615,000 minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have proposed a N615,000 minimum wage for workers, justifying the amount based on rising food prices and transportation costs. The breakdown includes significant allocations for food (N270,000 per month), transportation (N110,000 per month), housing/accommodation (N40,000 per month), and other essential needs like medicals, education, and clothing. Organised Labour defended the proposal citing the high cost of living due to inflation. Labour leaders argue that governors can afford this wage if priorities are adjusted. The proposal comes amid President Bola Tinubu's indication of an imminent minimum wage increase.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has intervened in a contempt case against the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, related to the trial of former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. The court has ordered a stay of proceedings in the contempt charge initiated by Justice Jamil Abdullahi of the Kogi State High Court against the EFCC Chairman. This order follows allegations that the EFCC disobeyed court orders regarding Bello's case.
