House of Representatives member Ugo Chinyere (Ideato Federal Constituency) has discussed a measure that he and other legislators introduced. Instead of the present system of two four-year terms, he said the measure suggests the president serve one six-year term. According to him, it implies that the six geographical zones of Nigeria should take turns hosting the presidency.

According to Chinyere, who was interviewed for a Channels TV documentary, the measure also suggests the establishment of two vice presidents. He announced that the vice presidents would come from various geopolitical zones, with one coming from the same zone as the president.

In order to avoid a repeat of the situation that occurred when President Yar'Adua died, he proposed that the vice president of the same zone would serve out the remainder of the president's term in the event of the president's removal or resignation. "There should be office of two vice presidents to avoid what happened during the time of Yar'Adua's death," Chinyere said.

That in the event of the president's death, impeachment, or removal from office, the succession vice president, who is the second vice president, shall be sworn in to finish the remaining term without having to re-contest, regardless of whether it's the day before their tenure is about to expire. The video starts playing around the 13:43 mark.
