Cody Gakpo's early strike and Donyell Malen's late brace secured a 3-0 victory for the Netherlands over Romania, propelling them into the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.
The Netherlands began the game cautiously, nearly conceding when Dennis Man's shot from distance went over the bar. However, Gakpo's opener gave them the confidence to take command.
Cutting inside Andrei Ratiu, Gakpo's shot from the left side of the area slipped past Nita at his near post.
The Dutch continued to press, with Denzel Dumfries creating a chance for Xavi Simons, who failed to convert. After the break, Memphis Depay was denied a goal by Ratiu's last-ditch tackle, and Van Dijk's header hit the post.
Depay also had a 25-yard shot saved by Nita and saw another effort ruled out by VAR for offside.
Joey Veerman nearly added a third, but his shot rolled wide. The clinching goal came in the 83rd minute when Gakpo kept the ball in play under pressure, setting up Malen for an easy finish.
Malen then completed the scoring with a composed finish in the final moments, breaking away from the Romanian defense.
