Dr. Fayemi Fakayode, the President of the International Council for Ifa Religion (ICIR) and a traditionalist, recently voiced concerns about Oba Abdulrashed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo.

Dr. Fayemi urged the monarch to show respect for Yoruba tradition, culture, and the Ifa religion. He pointed out that the Oluwo's controversial statements have caused discord and brought shame to other Yoruba traditional leaders.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Council's new executive committee at the World Ifa Temple in Osun State, Dr. Fayemi called on the Osun State Government, Yoruba elders, and cultural organizations to step in and address the situation with the Oluwo. He emphasized the importance of the Oluwo refraining from making disrespectful comments about Yoruba traditions and culture, urging him to act responsibly to prevent further issues.

According to The Nation, Fayemi said, “We implore the people who are fanning the ember of religious discord in our land to desist. Oluwo should refrain from using unprintable statements against Yoruba tradition, culture and religion.

“We also call on the government, especially the government of Osun State, Yoruba socio-cultural organisations and Yoruba elders to call Oba Akanbi to order before his utterances cause problems.”
