"That Is Not True" - Pastor Kumuyi Responds To Job's Statement That God Took His Possessions Away

Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, addressed a common misunderstanding in his recent sermon titled "Perseverance in Righteousness in Spite of Adversity."

He responded to the biblical statement made by Job that "God took his things away," emphasizing that this interpretation is not accurate. "Job said the Lord gave and has taken his possessions away. This is not true because it was not God who took those things away. He then blessed he name of the Lord," Kumuyi said.

Pastor Kumuyi explained that while the Scriptures contain valuable lessons, they must be understood in context. Referencing Job 1:8, he highlighted God's dialogue with Satan, wherein God acknowledges Job's righteousness.

In discussing Job 1:20, Pastor Kumuyi admired Job's response to his trials, noting his unwavering devotion to worship despite his immense suffering.

He encouraged believers to emulate Job's dedication, pointing out the spiritual breakthroughs that worship can bring. However, he clarified that Job's statement about the Lord giving and taking away his possessions was based on Job's limited understanding at the time.

Pastor Kumuyi urged modern Christians to recognize that God does not take away their blessings. "It was understandable for Job to say the Lord gave and took back, but it is not right for you to confess the same today because you have more privileges and understanding," he explained.

He affirmed that God gives life abundantly and does not withdraw His blessings, encouraging believers to embrace this truth in their faith journey.
