A 24-year-old woman, Blessing Okonkwo, has confessed to selling her three-year-old brother, Friday Okonkwo, for N410,000.

According to Sahara Reporters on Friday, Okonkwo said that the harsh economic conditions in the country was the reason she sold her brother.

Okonkwo had deceived her mother by pretending to enroll her brother in a school in Mubi.

Instead, she sold him to a human trafficker, Efunaya Nabufe, who transported him to Enugu State.

She disclosed that the proceeds from the sale of the boy were used to purchase a grinding machine for business and also fund her traditional wedding.

She said that she gave her boyfriend N200,000 from the money to buy items for their traditional wedding.

She said, "I used the proceeds of the crime to buy a grinding machine so I can start a business, and also gave my boyfriend N200,000 to buy items required for our traditional wedding."

The police in Adamawa State have confirmed the arrest of Okonkwo and Nabufe in connection with the crime.

The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said that the investigation was initiated after a report was filed by the boy's mother, Hauwa Lawan.

Nguroje added, "Immediately the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, ordered the Divisional Police Officer in Mubi South, SP Aaron Ezra to commence investigation, and as God would have it, two suspects, Blessing Friday, 24, and Efunaya Nabufe, 35, were apprehended in connection with the crime."

Nguroje added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation, and that the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
