In a recent statement, Hashim Dungurawa, the chairman of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is destabilizing the state by attempting to impose the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, on the Emirate.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Dungurawa claimed that the interference is motivated by the shared Yoruba background of both Tinubu and Bayero. He criticized the special protection provided to Emir Bayero by the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and other security agencies, arguing it goes against the state government’s interests.

According to Leadership, Dungurawa warned that President Tinubu's actions could have political repercussions in the 2027 elections. He urged the President to address the Kano Emirate issue by ensuring the removal of the deposed Emir from Kano.

The NNPP state chairman also announced that Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would be the party's presidential candidate in the 2027 election, expressing confidence in Kwankwaso’s chances of becoming Nigeria's next president.

Additionally, Dungurawa called for a review of the 2019 election results, asserting that Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of Kano State and APC national chairman, did not legitimately win his second term.

“Your perceived stance on the ongoing Kano Emirate tussle would surely work against you in 2027 because if you think you can use it to gain ground in Kano when the chips are down you will realise your mistakes," Dungurawa stated. "If the President thinks he will use a few of his kinsmen in Kano and the alleged Bayero’s Yoruba lineage to continue to keep the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero in the State, let him wait for 2027, we will show him that those people will not help him.”
