A special memorial concert will be held at Uhuru Park on Saba Saba Day to honor those who lost their lives in the recent protests.

The event will run from 12 noon to 7 pm and is expected to draw a significant crowd in remembrance and solidarity.

Organized as a tribute to the fallen, this year's Saba Saba Day memorial concert will be free of charge, thanks to the Nairobi County Government.

Activist Boniface Mwangi shared that the county will waive the venue fees, making it easier for people from all walks of life to attend and pay their respects.

Saba Saba Day, traditionally a day to celebrate and reflect on Kenya's push for multiparty democracy, takes on added significance this year as it becomes a platform to remember those who died during recent demonstrations.

The concert aims to provide a space for the community to come together in mourning and remembrance without the usual political overtones that often accompany such gatherings.

According to a letter addressed to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, the event is strictly a memorial and will not serve as a political rally.

The letter firmly stated that no politician would be allowed to speak, ensuring the focus remains on honoring the victims.

"It is not a political rally or a platform to desecrate the dead," the letter emphasized, underscoring the organizers' intention to keep the event solemn and respectful.

Uhuru Park, a historic site for many significant events in Kenya’s history, is an apt location for this memorial. It provides ample space for attendees to gather and reflect.

The park's open-air setting will also allow for a range of performances and activities that can be appreciated by all in attendance.

The concert is expected to feature a variety of performances, including music, poetry, and possibly dance, all designed to honor those who lost their lives.

Activist Boniface Mwangi, known for his strong stance on social justice and human rights, has been a vocal advocate for honoring the memories of those who have suffered during the protests.

Attendees are encouraged to come with flowers and other tokens of remembrance to lay down in tribute. moment for all who attend.
