An elder statesman and industrialist, Chike Obidigbo, emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is not responsible for detaining IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing Kanu's case as purely a security matter, as reported by Vanguard.

Obidigbo criticized Igbo politicians for politicizing the call for Kanu's release, accusing them of worsening rather than helping his situation. He warned Southeastern politicians against complicating Kanu's plight further and condemned their actions driven by ignorance and self-interest.

In a statement from Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday, July 7, Obidigbo stressed the need for diplomatic efforts to resolve Kanu's incarceration without further politicization. He highlighted the complexities surrounding Kanu's extradition and criticized the British government's silence, suggesting their involvement in Kanu's illegal transfer from Kenya to Nigeria.

“I am constrained to say that I am not comfortable with the way and manner our political elites are going about their request for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” said the elder statesman.

Obidigbo lamented the superficial involvement of Igbo political elites in Kanu's release campaign, suggesting their actions prioritize political gain over genuine advocacy for justice. He noted that Kanu's British citizenship did not protect him from illegal transport to Nigeria, alleging a conspiracy involving Kenyan and British authorities.

Obidigbo called for a strategic approach to secure Kanu's freedom, emphasizing the need for international accountability in addressing human rights violations.
