Arsenal appear to be close to adding a new face to their squad this summer, but all is not going as well as people think it is.

The Gunners entered the summer transfer market for a new left-back, they found Riccardo Calafiori who ticked all the boxes for the kind of player they wanted, but despite having agreed personal terms with the Italy international, the deal could still fall through.

As revealed by Sky Sports few days ago, the Gunners are said to have accepted terms with Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori and are poised to complete a deal with the Italian club within the next few days.

It is said that the defender has agreed to a deal that would see him commit his future to the North Londoners till the end of June 2029.

While it is true that Calafiori has chosen Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that an agreement over the player's valuation could break the deal as both parties are yet to come to a decision concerning the actual transfer fee.

As revealed by Romano, Bologna wants around €50m (£42m) for the defender, but Arsenal are reluctant to meet such fee for a player who only recently joined the Italian side from FC Basel.

However, Bologna have refused to bring down their valuation of the player because of an agreement with the player's old club, FC Basel, who are to get 50% of any fees in excess of €4.5m (£3.8 million) this summer.

With the deal not yet complete and with Bologna and the north Londoners still discussing the finances involved, third parties like Chelsea could step in and pay Bologna's transfer demands in full.

The Blues have also been linked with a move for the defender this summer and a little mistake from the Gunners could see them step in and seal a deal for him, just like they did in the signing of Mudryk.
