Chelsea, the Premier League giants, are reportedly ready to break the bank to sign Spanish-Nigerian sensation Samuel Omorodion. The 20-year-old Atletico Madrid star has been likened to former Chelsea icon Diego Costa, and his impressive performances have caught the attention of the club's owners and recruitment team.

According to The Sun UK, Chelsea will need to shell out at least 70 million pounds (approximately €80 million) to secure the services of the highly-rated youngster. This hefty sum would surpass the club's current transfer record, set by the €64 million signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund.

Omorodion's impressive CV boasts an impressive strike rate, with nine goals in his first 23 matches in La Liga. His debut season in Spain was nothing short of remarkable, scoring on his debut for Granada against Atlético Madrid before making a move to Deportivo Alavés on loan.

Despite a slight dip in form towards the end of last season, Omorodion has already made a name for himself in Spanish football and has been called up to Spain's Olympic squad for the 2024 Games. His contract with Atletico Madrid runs until the end of the 2027-2028 season, making him a valuable commodity in the transfer market.

Chelsea have already made one Nigerian signing this transfer window, bringing in Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham. However, it seems they are willing to splurge big to bring Omorodion to Stamford Bridge. With his impressive skillset and potential for growth, it's little wonder why Chelsea are willing to break the bank for this talented young striker.

Will Chelsea be able to secure Omorodion's signature and break their transfer record? Only time will tell.
