Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the peace accord he signed in March, asserting the need for clarification on certain aspects.

According to Daily Trust, Governor Fubara emphasised the basis of his acceptance of the accord, citing his pre-existing relationship with the individuals involved, whom he had supported prior to assuming office.

Despite past disagreements, Governor Fubara expressed optimism for future reconciliation.

However, Governor Fubara highlighted the necessity of clarifying that the group claiming to be assembly members does not actually exist.

He emphasised that their legitimacy and activities were contingent upon his recognition and allowance.

This statement comes as a clear assertion of governance and authority, reaffirming Governor Fubara's commitment to maintaining peace and order in Rivers State.

The governor's clarification sheds light on the intricacies of the peace accord and the underlying dynamics at play.

By addressing the issue of the purported assembly members, Governor Fubara stressed the need to dispel any confusion and maintain transparency regarding the state's governance structures.

Fubara said, "I accepted it (peace accord) because these are people that were visiting me and we were together in my house.

"These are people that I have helped in many ways, even when I wasn’t even a governor. Yes, we might have our disagreements, but I believe that one day we could also come together. That was the reason I did it.

"But I think it has gotten to a time when I need to make a statement on this thing so that they understand that they are not existing.

"Their existence and whatever they have been doing are because I allowed them to do so. If I don’t recognise them, they are nowhere. That is the truth."
