President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Shettima, expressed concern that the insecurity in the North-West region was affecting the rest of Nigeria at a security summit in Katsina organized by the North-West Governors' Forum and the United Nations Development Programme.
According to Punch News, he assured Nigerians that his administration would not stop until they had eliminated banditry, terrorism, and other forms of insecurity, arguing that achieving lasting peace would require addressing historical injustices that had divided communities.
Tinubu highlighted the various security crises facing the North, including clashes between herders and farmers as well as cattle rustling, and outlined measures his government was taking, such as deploying the military against insurgent groups, enhancing border security and intelligence, and pursuing both military and non-military interventions.
One of the non-military initiatives mentioned was the Pulaku resettlement program, a large-scale effort to address the root causes of conflicts between farmers and herders in seven affected states.
Katsina Governor Radda, as head of the North-West Governors' Forum, lamented the devastating impact of banditry and called for a multi-pronged approach involving robust intelligence gathering, community policing, and advanced security technology, with the Sultan of Sokoto and the German Ambassador also stressing the need for collaborative efforts to combat insecurity in the region.
