President William Ruto addressed the nation ahead of tomorrow's Saba Saba Day, scheduled at Uhuru Gardens to honor heroes who died during protests against the Finance Bill 2024. He outlined key steps moving forward.

In his speech at State House today, President Ruto acknowledged public pressure, particularly from Gen Z demanding accountability and inclusion in government plans. He announced the withdrawal of the Finance Bill for the second time and pledged to reduce government expenditures, addressing a major concern raised by Gen Z. He also committed to downsizing the cabinet to enhance efficiency in service delivery to Kenyans.

President Ruto highlighted plans to dissolve 47 state corporations with overlapping functions to eliminate operational costs. Employees affected by these closures will be reassigned to other sectors. He further suspended the appointment of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) and plans to reduce government advisors by 50%. Additionally, budgets for the offices of the First Lady, Deputy President's spouse, and the Prime CS will be removed to redirect funds to other sectors.

Emphasizing a focus on national issues rather than tribalism or political affiliations, President Ruto identified key concerns including taxation, debt, corruption, the cost of living, and youth opportunities.

President Ruto also emphasized austerity measures by suspending non-essential travel for state and public officers, aims to prioritize fiscal responsibility and potentially limit the perception of misuse of public resources. It reflects a common practice in governance to control spending and ensure accountability among public officials.

To the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives, president has send the deepest condolences to them all as well wish quick recovery, to all who got injured. He said Government will support those who lost their lives and who have been injured. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/bYs5q4KWnMngGDgx/?mibextid=oFDknk
