According to Punch, The Nigeria Police Force has launched a thorough investigation into serious allegations of abduction and extortion against five police officers attached to the Zone 6 Police Headquarters in Cross River State. The officers, who are now in custody, allegedly abducted a victim and extorted a significant sum of N3 million from them while on patrol along the Ikom-Calabar highway.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has condemned the alleged unprofessional conduct and ordered a high-powered investigation to uncover the facts behind the allegations. The investigation aims to ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken against the erring officers, serving as a deterrent to others who may be tempted to engage in similar misconduct.

The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nelson Okpabi, confirmed the investigation and assured that the police will not tolerate corrupt practices and unprofessional conduct among its officers. He stated that the police force is committed to ensuring accountability and transparency within its ranks and will take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
