Ogun: Gas Explosion Claims Lives of Mother and Daughter, Injures Two Others

According to vanguard news, a tragic gas explosion on Ebute Road in the Ibafo area of Ogun State has resulted in the deaths of a mother, Rafiat Sheriff, and her seven-year-old daughter, Asisat. The explosion occurred when Asisat attempted to light a gas cylinder to cook dinner, causing the entire house to be engulfed in flames.

The incident was confirmed by the Ogun State police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, on Sunday. Odutola stated, "The incident occurred last night when the mother instructed her seven-year-old daughter to cook. The girl was attempting to light up the gas cylinder when the entire house went up in flames. The mother and the child lost their lives in the explosion."

Two other girls, including one of Rafiat Sheriff’s children, were injured in the explosion and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The exact cause of the gas leak that led to the explosion is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.

This unfortunate event highlights the critical need for safety precautions when using gas appliances at home to prevent such tragedies.
