Mahdi Shehu, a well-known human rights activist and political commentator, has criticized Northern leaders and governors.
He expressed his concerns over the poor state of the region via his official X account.
In his statement titled 'NORTHERN BEGGERS BESIEGED LAGOS DESPITE TRILLIONS OF NAIRA REVENUES & INCOMES TO THE 19 NORTHERN STATES.'
Shehu highlighted the financial resources available to Northern states.
He listed the sources of these funds, including monthly federal allocations, bailouts, grants, loans, and incomes from investments.
1. From May 2015 to April 2024, 19 Northern States put together had N214 Trillion in their treasuries.
The sources of the monies are:
A. Monthly Federal allocation
B. Bailouts from Federal govt
C grants from Federal govt
D. Loans from CBN
E. Interventions from CBN
F. Foreign grants
G. Foreign loans
H. IGR's
I. Disposal of assets, etc
J. Loans from local banks
K. INCOMES from investments.
2. It is, therefore, a shame and scandalous that extreme poverty, illiteracy, lack of creativity, laziness, and outright looting and stealing from public treasury by politicians and their cohorts have pushed millions of Northerners to southern part of Nigeria where they have become a menace & a serious security and environment threat to the southern society.
3. The southern societies have no obligation towards these man made parasites and destitute that were deliberately created out of greed, insensitive, and Godlessness.
4. I warn that the day Karma turns its face to the wicked, heartless, and criminal elements of Northern leaders, the same destitute will return to the Northern Region even if by foot and make the entire North Ungovernable.
5. When that happens, current boko Haram menace, kidnapping, selective killings, etc will be like a child's play, and those who created these destitute through political miscalculation will pay a supreme price, which will be. celebrate openly. A DAY IS COMING SOON," Mahdi Shehu wrote
