"Ogun Orders Security Agencies to Launch Manhunt For Expressway Kidnapping Perpetrators"

Governor Dapo Abiodun has directed security agencies to launch a massive manhunt for the perpetrators behind the Sunday night kidnapping of travellers near Ilisan City Gate along the Sagamu-Ore expressway.

Reports indicate that no fewer than 20 travellers were kidnapped around the Area Command and Ilisan City Gate at about 9 p.m.

The gunmen ambushed them on the busy expressway.

Security sources suggest the incident may have been an insider job, as all the victims were foreign nationals who had arrived in the country the same day, possibly trailed to the kidnapping location.

The Federal Government has approved the exemption of small businesses, manufacturers and farmers from paying withholding tax as a way of reducing the tax burden on businesses.

The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this in a statement on his official X handle on Tuesday.

According to him, the government has also introduced key changes to the previous tax regime such as reduction of rates for businesses with low margins and measures to curb evasion.

Oyedele added that President Bola Tinubu has approved the new withholding tax regime for the country with the official gazette expected to be signed in the coming days.

South-East Governors and some stakeholders, including the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, on Tuesday, arrived at the Government House, Enugu, for a crucial meeting.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that all the South East governors physically attended the meeting.

The governors are Alex Otti of Abia, Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Charles Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and the host governor, Mr Peter Mbah.

The reason for the meeting is not disclosed to the press, but it might not be unconnected to insecurity in the zone and Nnamdi Kanu’s issue as well as the state of the zone. (NAN)
