According to the report from the Channels, In a recent turn of events in Edo State, the once-amicable relationship between Shaibu and Obaseki, who were former allies, has taken a drastic turn. Shaibu, the former deputy governor, found himself impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly for allegedly leaking government information, a move that has stirred up political tensions in the state.

While there are claims circulating that Governor Obaseki's actions may have betrayed his former ally, Obaseki defended his position by stating that the political landscape in the South-South state did not favor Shaibu's aspirations to ascend to the governor's seat at the Dennis Osadebay House in Benin City.

During an appearance on Monday's edition of Channels Television's Politics Today, Obaseki addressed the situation, stating, "For me, I did not understand where the ambition was coming from because it was clear that the odds were not in his favor in terms of succeeding me, and I made it very clear." Obaseki emphasized his duty to protect the interests of the Edo people, stating, "So, I could not take any risk on his ambition because I have to protect the Edo people. So, I could not take that risk on Edo people."
