A yet-to-be-identified man scaled a telecommunications mast on Katampe Hill in Abuja on Monday, vowing to sacrifice his life to draw attention to pressing national concerns.

According to eyewitness accounts, the man ascended the mast early in the morning, carrying a handwritten note outlining his five-point list of demands for the government.

In the note, he expressed his willingness to give up his life to spark a "riot" and force the government to address the problems facing Nigerians.

"These are the major Nigerian problems, and I'm ready to sacrifice my life for the solution to them. I am calling for fellow Nigerians to join me on this riot," the note read.

The man's primary demand was for the government to reinstate the fuel subsidy, which had been a contentious issue in the country.

He also called for the declaration of a state of emergency in several northern states plagued by insecurity, as well as measures to address the growing problem of out-of-school children.

Additionally, the note urged the government to open the borders for food importation to alleviate the ongoing food shortages in the country.

Channels TV reported that emergency responders, including operatives from the Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency, and other officials from the Federal Capital Territory, were present at the scene to intervene and attempt to persuade the man to come down safely.

This is not the first time such a dramatic protest has unfolded in Abuja. In September 2018, a 28-year-old man, Nurudeen Lliyasu, had also climbed a telecommunication mast in the capital city to protest the poor state of the economy.
