According to a report from Nigeria Tribuneonlineng, The Senate has gone into a closed-door session following a matter of privilege raised by Senator Ireti Kingibe regarding the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) budget.

Kingibe questioned why the budget was increased without her input.

Kingibe and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike have been publicly clashing over the administration of FCT affairs, with Wike threatening to unseat her in the 2027 elections.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, presiding over the session, has been involved in the dispute. During a flag-off ceremony at the Kugbo Bus Terminal in the FCT, Akpabio criticized Kingibe and advised Wike to ignore her concerns.

According to the Tribune, Kingibe has previously complained about being excluded from the management of FCT affairs and raised the issue of the 2024 FCT budget passing without her involvement.

The Senate's executive session is intended to address Kingibe's concerns and the ongoing feud with Wike.

The closed-door meeting highlights the urgency and importance the Senate places on resolving this matter.

During the flag-off ceremony, Akpabio appeared to side with Wike, downplaying Kingibe’s objections.

Kingibe, representing the FCT District under the Labour Party, has been vocal about her disagreements with Wike’s handling of the capital territory’s affairs.
