Omatsogunwa Jerry, the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media has stated that the arrest of Goodboy Sokari, the member representing Ahoada West Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, was politically motivated
In a recent report by Punch, Jerry, while speaking on Sokari's release from custody of the police, stated that Sokari's opposition to the attempted impeachment of the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara by some of the lawmakers in the state might have played a role in his ordeal.
Sokari was arrested outside the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on April 18, and he recently got released after two weeks. Jerry also stated that there was no court order justifying the Sokari's prolonged detention
In Jerry's words: "Sokari is part of the lawmakers who said 'What has the governor done that they want to impeach him? I think that is the only offence that he has committed".
