President Bola Tinubu has condemned the bomb attacks, which resulted in the loss of lives and the maiming of other citizens in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

PUNCH Online reported that a deadly bomb attack killed at least 18 persons and maimed many others on Saturday at a wedding ceremony in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State.

A security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, told PUNCH Online that the bomber, later identified as a young lady in her early twenties, detonated her explosive device in the middle of the gathering, causing chaos and destruction.

Intelligence sources told Makama that the victims, who were all civilians, were returning from a wedding celebration when the attack occurred near a busy motor park.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to rescue those injured and transport them to the hospitals in Gwoza.

Saturday’s bomb attack is the first in years since Boko Haram began bombing raids across the country in 2009. Notable among such raids was the bombing of the United Nations building in 2010 and the busy Nyanya motor park both in Abuja, in 2014.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President described the attacks as desperate acts of terror and a clear manifestation of the pressure mounted against terrorists and the success achieved in degrading their capacity to launch offensives.

Sources suggested that the attack in the northeastern city of Thionville was linked to a settling of scores between drug traffickers.

The shooting, according to an AFP report occurred at a reception hall overnight Saturday to Sunday, with around a hundred people in attendance.

Two people were seriously injured and one of them was in a critical condition.

The perpetrators of the shooting have fled the scene.

“It was during a wedding,” a police source said.

“At a quarter past one in the morning, a group of people went outside to smoke in front of the hall, and then three heavily armed men arrived and opened fire in their direction.”

We Will Resist Governor’s Moves On Payment Of Minimum Wage – Labour

Following plans by many state governors to domesticate the national minimum wage according to how much they can pay, organised labour has vowed to resist the moves, even as they called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to stop the state governors from truncating the Federal Law binding payment of the national minimum wage.

The first deputy president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Etim Okon, who stated this in a chat with LEADERSHIP Sunday chided the state governors for trying to adopt the divide and rule style in the matter that is under the exclusive list

According to him, since the labour matter is under the exclusive list meant only for the federal government to deliberate on, President Tinubu and members of the National Assembly should prevail on the state governors and remind them that they cannot create their own minimum wage outside the one agreed by the federal government.

He blamed those state governors for toying with the welfare of their workers and making fresh efforts to subject them to slave wages that cannot keep them afloat in view of the prevailing economic realities in the country.

Dr Okon, who is also the president of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), said Labour will resist that move because states have no power to legislate on their own minimum wage outside the one agreed by the federal government.
