According to Reuters, Heavy rains wreaked havoc across Germany on Friday, resulting in widespread flooding.

In Bavaria, a major storm caused roads and cellars to flood, with fallen trees creating additional disruptions. In Kempten, south-west of Munich, roads were covered in hailstones, leading to approximately 320 emergency operations between 6 pm (1600 GMT) and midnight, according to a police spokesman. The Allgäu region and Lindau district, near Lake Constance and the Austrian border, were particularly affected. Emergency services continued overnight to pump out flooded cellars.

In the city of Rosenheim, further east, police recorded another 230 operations, responding to flooded cellars and fallen trees blocking roads and tracks. No injuries were reported.

In the northern state of Lower Saxony, heavy rain caused further chaos, flooding cellars and streets. Emergency services in the County of Bentheim, near the Dutch border, were especially busy, dealing with over 100 incidents in the town of Nordhorn. Flooding forced the temporary closure of a hospital emergency room, and overflowing reservoirs caused additional damage in residential areas. Several roads were temporarily closed, and around 200 firefighters were mobilized to manage the flooding.

Further south, strong winds caused significant damage in the town of Dissen, near Osnabrück, amounting to €130,000 ($142,000). Several residential buildings, including a retirement home, were affected.

The German Weather Service forecasts isolated thunderstorms bringing more heavy rain to Lower Saxony, particularly in coastal areas, on Saturday and Sunday.
